Hart Institute Summer Research Grants for Students
The Hart Institute for American History awards up to 3 summer research grants for Pomona students. The proposed research may be in:
  • any area of American history;
  • interdisciplinary research that pays significant attention to American history (e.g., research on American literature or on the American economy that has an historical dimension); or
  • comparative or Western hemispheric studies that address aspects of American history.

The proposals will be judged on the interest, significance, and originality of the proposed research;  the clarity, specificity, and practicality of the research plan; the extent of research in original sources; and the likelihood that the research will result in a significant contribution, such as a senior honors thesis, a substantial research paper, a documentary film or some other appropriate form of expression

Students should submit to the Office of the Dean of the College:

  • a 2-3 page research proposal that clearly indicates the focus and significance of the proposed research; the kinds and locations of the sources to be examined; and the expected outcome of the project;
  • a one page preliminary bibliography;
  • one letter of recommendation; and
  • an official transcript and brief statement of qualifications to do the proposed research

Current deadlines and stipend amounts are determined by the Office of the Dean of the College (x 18328)
